Dan Burgoyne will lead some guests on an optional salmon fishing excursion on Day 5 of the Discover the North 2013 tour. Fishing will be in the Glen River in County Donegal, and will occur under the guidance of Angling Pro, Noel Carr who also serves as the Secretary of FISSTA (Federation of Irish Salmon and Sea Trout Anglers).
Noel Carr says ….. We can take up to 8 or ten but will hire a minibus depending on the reservations made from our regular clients at the time of booking. No boats are used as the river is a small 30-80 foot wide which we can fly cast across quite easily.
The fishing is on the bank of the glen river (safer for older less sure footed anglers) and we will allocate pools (15 miles of river in wild boggy mountainous moorland) or beats for the client to fly fish, spin or if the water level dictates even fish with natural bait. It really depends on the weather which ideally we always hope for a falling flood when the wild salmon and sea trout leap over our water falls at the famous ‘salmon leap’ as the tide turns. This may only happen four or five times in the season but usually every week to ten days because we have plenty of our glorious rain. So far we have had 5 great salmon fishing days to June end and last week the largest salmon caught was 14lb – but the average is 6-7lb.
Cost for this optional tour is $85 per person.

Mindie, I think Dick and I want to do this. Should I pay for this through Kathy’s co., or are you just taking the reservations, or what?
Mindie says
Kathleen, you pay right through Kathy Harrigan. She will be handling the reservations. It will be great to have you on that. Noel Carr is the guru. 🙂
